Thursday ~ Service
The word maundy comes from the Latin word mandatum, meaning command. John 13:34 says, “A new command I give to you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” This day commemorates the night of the Last Supper which Jesus shared with his disciples and when he washed their feet. Consider joining FBCG for service with your family (7 pm or 8:30 at West Campus) to observe the day the disciples received the command to love, had their feet washed by a king, and the connection was made between the Passover sacrifice and Christ’s sacrifice. Perhaps take turns serving each other and/or washing each other’s feet. In lieu of washing feet, children could polish shoes—dad’s or mom’s, each other’s. Another possibility is to host a Passover Meal. You can get more information and a guide for conducting a Seder (Order of Service) at: christianseder.com. For a simple version, just serve grape juice and Matzo (“Matzah”) crackers.
Consider fasting from the close of Maunday Thursday Service through Easter Morning. It is an amazing time to practice such a discipline. It may be a FAST that is not from food…consider fasting from TV, video games, music, the newspaper, movies, sports radio, or something else that captivates your life.
