The Secret Life of Teens
Lately I have have been impressed with the realization that the world has changed a great deal since the time that I was in high school. It doesn’t feel like that long ago and yet at the rate that society and culture is now changing, it is in reality what amount to light years. The implications of this are huge for those of us are that either attempting to disciple and mentor students or even more so for parents of teenagers. Things are just different now. It is easy when relating to a student to assume upon their teenage experience the values, conditions and atmosphere that we faced and in doing so express a lack of understanding and sensitivity to the challenges and struggles that face them everyday; and they are many.
I recently came across an article from Chicago Magazine entitled The Secret Life of Teens: A Special Report. One one hand much of the report did not surprise or shock me and then on the other it reaffirmed just how much things have changed and the effort that it takes to understand students in light of the world that they currently live in. I encourage to read the report and if nothing else, it will certainly encourage us all to pray for the students that we love so much.
