The Roseland team has arrived safe and sound.  We are all unpacked and getting ready for bed.  We began our study focusing on  Re-imagining what being a high school student is all about.  We are excited to see how God is going to lead this week.

Tomorrow morning we will wake up early, do our morning devos, eat breakfast and head out to start our work day….check in tomorrow evening for a report on our progress after work day #1.

Be Traders:
February 24th, 2011

This week, we had our first training meeting for our summer mission trips to Roseland, Mexico and Ecuador. During our time together, we dealt with the questions of “why”? Why do we do these trips, raise all the money, spend Tuesday nights in training, send out support letter, host servant auctions, etc,? Why, because we want to be a part of what God is doing around the world. We want to be a part of the Kingdom of God business that he is about. We want to be a brush stroke in a much bigger picture that will carry on for eternity. We want to trade in the values of this world, this culture for something greater.

What if I don’t want to play dodgeball? This is much more than just a dodgeball tournament. There will be free video game play (xbox, Wii, etc), Christmas movies, tons of food and drink, etc. Everyone is welcome and invited to come even if you have no interest in playing dodgeball.

Dodgeball Details: There will be sign up sheets in TREK or via the facebook event. Each team needs a “Captain” to help with communication, each team can only have 1 adult and can have up to 8 people (minimum of 6). Six players will man each team at the beginning of each game. but other players will rotate in as we will work an equal opportunity event. There will be a 16-team championship bracket set up (with a losers bracker) so every team is guaranteed to play in 2 games!

Why Are We Doing This? Roseland Christian Ministries is a homeless shelter, drop-in center, warming center, food pantry and soup kitchen in the Roseland neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. During this Christmas Season TREK wanted to find a way to give back to a place that gives so much to those in need. The student leaders of TREK thought that getting students together for something as fun as a Christmas party and Dodgeball Tournament would be a great way to raise awareness and funds for Roseland. We believe that we have been given so much and this is just one way to give back. We hope you will join us in this effort.
